Ghatams are used by Carnatic musicians of South India, and Udu drummers in world music. Although the ghaṭam looks like an ordinary domestic clay pot, it is made specifically to be played as a pitched percussion clay drum. The tone of the pot depends on numerous factors, most importantly the even thickness all around to produce an even tone regardless where the drum is struck on the neck.

Around 40 kms from the bustling city of the sugar lords, Kolhapur, sits the small town of Miraj. On the border between the two towns lies a house which has been the abode of the most legendary Sitar makers in India for over a century. When asked what their last name is, they proudly say “Satarmaker”.

Ultimate Guru has some sensational instruments in this catalog. I am very happy with the personal service and the excellent quality of the instruments they supply.
