Ultimate Guru Concert Grade Kanjira

The Kanjira is an eclectic south Indian instrument that is used majorly in South Indian musical arrangements. The Kanjira or Khanjira or Ganjira is a folk instrument which was used in Bhajans but now has earned its well deserved position as an accompaniment with the Mridangam in traditional Carnatic music. Belonging to the Tambourine family, the instrument is a frame drum which has a metal disc attached to it. The wood used in the Kanjira is the same used for the Mridangam, which is the wood from the Jackfruit tree.

About This Product

  • Highlights:

    • Excellent tonal quality

This kanjira has been specially sourced from Thanjavur. It is made from Goat skin on account of the Monitor lizard skin head Kanjiras having been banned due to the ecological threat to the reptiles, without any drop in sound quality. Watch the videos attached to see the comparison between the Monitor lizard kanjira sound and the Ultimate Guru Kanjira.

The Kanjira is 7 inches in diameter and 2 inches deep. This Kanjira has a deep and rich resounding tone and briliant sustain. The best way to play the instrument is to apply a little water to the inside of the Kanjira before playing begins. The instrument is held in the left hand and played with the right hand. The instrument sounds better over time. Watch the attached demo videos for the sound quality.
